Hack 15:
Use ice cube trays in a variety of shapes as little molds for your mini
candle.

To make a free standing mini candle, you will need:

  • Wax
  • Ice cube tray (preferable in fun shapes)
  • Dye (optional)
  • Wicks
  • Glass measuring cup (with spout)
Use your double boiler to melt the wax. Stir occasionally and keep an eye on it until it reaches 169 degrees F.

It’s easiest to use ice cube trays that have the rubber bottom. This is going to make removing the finished candle much easier as you won’t risk breaking it pulling it out. However, if you don’t have this kind of ice cube tray, whatever you have will work, you just need to be careful removing the candle once it has set.

Once the wax is ready, pour into your ice cube tray using your glass measuring cup. Allow to set up for 1 hour, then take your thermometer and poke holes into the top of each of the candles.

Fit the wicks into each of the candles now, then allow them to finish setting up.Pop the candles out from the bottom of the ice cube tray, then trim the wicks down to the proper size.

Burn the candles floating in water – a bowl with flower petals and the candles is a perfect romantic touch to any dinner.
