Adding scent with fruit

Hack 13: Adding scent with fruit.

To make a fruit scented candle, you will need the following items:

  • Jar
  • Wick
  • Wick tabs
  • Wax
  • Fragrance oil in orange or lemon (optional)
  • Dye of choice (optional)
  • Dried orange or lemon peels

Heat the wax in your double boiler (or your substitute double boiler) until the wax has reached 178 degrees F. stirring occasionally.

If you are adding color to the candle, go ahead and add the dye or the crayon now taking note that crayons do have a scent of their own and if you choose to use this to color the candle, you’re going to need more oil to compensate for the scent.

Add the fragrance oil a few drops at a time, if you choose to add this extra scent.

The candle will smell a lot stronger if you add in the extra oil, but it’s not necessary with the dried peels.

Remove the wax from heat and stir in the fruit peels, Transfer the entire combination to a candle jar (you may need to pull on the wick to ensure it stays standing) then allow the candle to set up overnight.
